In conjunction with the month of Ramadhan which falls between the 6 June and 6 July, the KDU Youth of Deen Society collaborated with the KDU Pre-United Club and Student Council to organise and host KDU’s annual Iftar (buka puasa) event at the Damansara Jaya campus on 28 June 2016; and was supported by respective club advisors including Mr. Mohamad Zaki bin Samsudin, Ms. Tunku Puteri Amelia and Ms. Sharifah Azura binti Tuan Muda. This event aimed to instil togetherness and understanding about the Muslim practice of fasting and breaking-fast, and was opened to all KDU students and staff who wished to join the merry gathering.

Besides hosting a dinner in line with how Muslims break their fast, the event also saw the attendance of 50 participants from the Rumah Bakti Cahaya Hati orphanage, Rawang. The aim was to bring enjoyment in the form of a fun gathering for the kids, ranging from as young as age 2 to even 19 years old. Students and staff were able to communicate and spend quality time with the children, as well as learn to be more compassionate and understanding. The children enthusiastically performed three different Nasheed and dance performances for the crowd. Furthermore, as a gift, the children were given Duit Raya packets.

There was a sense of happiness in the atmosphere not just among KDU students and staff but also the children from the orphanage. All in all, it was a memorable evening for those in attendance.
