Blood Donation Drive at KDU College

Blood donation is yet another act of selflessness favoured by those who wish to do something more or different but may not have the resources to make monetary contributions or may not have the time or skill to do so.

On 16 May 2016, the Leo Club joined hand with Pusat Darah Negara, to organise a Blood Donation Campaign held in KDU College, Damansara Jaya campus. The event aimed to promote awareness about the importance and benefits of donating blood amongst the community. Regardless of it being examination week, the event saw a crowd of donors turning up to support the drive.

Prior to the actual donation, the donors had their blood type and weight checked. For safety reasons, the donors were required to get their blood pressure checked as well – those with low or high blood pressure were not eligible to donate. Snacks and drinks were also prepared for the donors to regain their energy afterwards. All the procedures were assisted by the staff nurses and doctor from Pusat Darah Negara.

Arina Kho Chiaw Shien, one of the students who donated blood, also commented that she wished that this kind of event could be held more regularly. Another student, Melvin Tan Kar Hua, also recommended that the college should attempt to do this event in both campuses as it would gain more support that way. It was heart-warming to see not only students, but also staff, to show their support for this event.
